As a part of our UOI about 'human interactions affect living things', we went to observe the plants in our little garden at the entrance of our school. We asked Mr Aik our security guard who also looks after the garden a few questions.
Kotaru: "Mr Aik, why do you like taking care of plants?"
Mr Aik: "They are important for people and animals, they also make our school look beautiful."
Eddie: "Why do you want to do 2 jobs?"
Mr Aik: 'Because I love plants."
Jiarui: How do you make flowers?"
Mr Aik: "I give them fertilizer so that the leaves are green and there are lots of flowers."
Lucas: How do you make the garden so beautiful?"
Mr Aik: i take away all the weeds which are near the plants so that the plants can grow, so they look beautiful."
Amelia: "Do you water them everyday?"
Mr Aik: "Yes, but when it rains a lot then i don't have to water them."
On another day we went around our school to compare 'how human interactions affect living things'. So we compared the plants which Mr Aik takes care of to the big banyan tree which no human takes care of, but is taken care of by nature. We showed our findings on a Venn diagram, the similarities and differences.
We continued working on organization using story maps in our writing. In reading we worked on retelling story to discuss characters, setting, problem/goal, and events sequencing the beginning middle and end.
