What a wonderful day at ISS International Day! We viewed the Parade of Nations, some drama performances, and visited 4 different county rooms - Japan, China, Malaysia, and Australia. The day ended off with a delicious international food buffet. Everyone showed their national pride and showed a lot of interest and open-mindedness to the cultures of others! Thanks to all the families, teachers, and students who made this special day possible!
UOI: How We Organize Ourselves
This week we revisited our unit on cooperation and team work. We brainstormed ideas on why cooperation is important, what is a team and when do we work in teams.
We first worked independently to build a structure and then built a structure as a whole class. We decided to make a town.
We reflected on how it felt when we were working by ourselves verses when working together as a class. Eddie said 'when I was working on my own I felt frustrated cause I did not have enough time, but when I worked with the whole class I thought I could finish it on time.' Lucas said that 'when I was working with the team it was easy but when I was working all by myself it was not easy.' Kotaru said 'when I was working by myself it was difficult and the the house kept falling down whereas when I worked together it felt better.' Amelia said 'I felt happy when I was working with the class and I had to do everything quickly when I was working by myself.' Jiarui added 'I was happy' when I worked on my own and also when I worked with my friends. Holly also felt 'that when I was working on my own I had to hurry and when I worked together I thought I could make it.' Justin added 'I was happy' to work in a team.
On another day we constructed structures with Lego in our groups. We made our plans and then one group went to build a town and the other group a tall building. The tall building did not work so we built a tree house instead.
We continued working with shapes. We used mirrors to find symmetry of our face and lots of objects. We then cut shapes on paper and folded then to find symmetry. We imagined that triangle when folded looked like a slide, oval when folded looked liked a ducks mouth! It was loads of fun.
